How to reach Pwll Du Beach via Bishopston Valley | The best Walks on the Gower
A delightful woodland walk through the tranquil Bishopston valley. En-route, you will pass a series of limestone caves & underground rivers before emerging from beneath the canopy onto one of Gower's most beautiful, but secluded beaches.

Where is Pwll Du beach?
Pwll du, which translates from Welsh into Black pool, sits at the bottom of Bishopston Valley on the southern Gower Coastline. A hidden gem on the Gower coastline, this remote little sand and shingle beach is as beautiful as they come and is perfect for escaping the crowds.
Where to park for Pwll Du?
Parking for this Pwll Du Walk is avaible at the Beaufort Arms in Kittle or on the residential streets near the pub.
The pub had a great menu, a sun soaked beer garden, and children’s play area making it perfect choice for food and a well earned drink after the walk.
How was Pwll Du formed?
Pwll Du Beach was partly created from the from the limestone quarrying that was carried out Pwll Du Head. It’s rocky shoreline is formed from sea washed quarry pebbles which have ended up here after the mining stopped in 1884
Is Pwll Du Dog Friendly?
Dogs are allowed on Pwll du all year round, making it the perfect walk for those who have brought their canine companion with them.
How to get to Pwll Du?
From the Beaufort pub, cross over the main road and head towards Kittle Green, passing the National Trust sign and following the footpath into the trees.
Once into the woodland follow the signposts for Pwll Du, dropping down the steep slope into the valley.
Upon reaching the bottom of the valley you’ll be greeted by a river, turn right and follow the river sticking to the right-hand bank down stream.
The path will bend an weave its way through the tranquil woodland and crossing through a meadow.
Keep following the signs for Pwll Du for around 2km until you eventually reach a stone footbridge with a white house behind it.
Don’t cross the bridge but instead stay to the right and walk 150m between two houses until you reach the beach.
You can continue this walk by following the coastal path back east for just over 2km past Brandy Cove. towards Caswell Bay. The path is relatively flat and passes by a beautiful section of the Gower coast
Alternatively you can park at Caswell by and walk along the coastal path to Pwll Du. The out and back walk walk is 3 miles in total.
