About me
Shwmae, my names Chris Knight. I’m a former Welsh rugby player turned freelance content creator, adventure athlete, and sports media professional.
Born and raised in Swansea. My love of the outdoors originates from my time spent growing up on the rugged coastline of the Gower Peninsula alongside family holidays in the Austrian Alps.
After graduating from Reading University with a Geography Degree in 2012, I moved back to Wales and played professional rugby for several years, representing Wales Sevens, Llanelli Scarlets, and the Cardiff Blues.
However after a brief four year professional career, during which I was lucky enough to play in six different countries across four different continents and in the 2013 Sevens World Cup, I was forced to retire prematurely after slipping a disc in my spine.
To stay active and to overcome the emotional struggles I faced from premature retirement, I escaped into the Welsh mountain ranges of the Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia.
It was during my time spent hiking these mountain ranges where my passion for adventure and photography began began.
After being placed on furlough in 2020 due to the pandemic, I decided to set up this website as a way to showcase my adventures and photography. It also acted as an opportunity promote the beautiful landscape and plethora of outdoor opportunities we have here in Wales.
After starting a masters degree in Sports media Broadcasting I also decided to start a YouTube channel as way to further showcase my adventures, alongside improving my skillset both in font of and behind the camera.
In April 2022, I won Vlog/Blog of the Year in the 2022 Wales Media Awards, something I was extremely proud of considering everything on my site is written or edited by myself. I was also a runner up in the Ed Townsend Student Journalist of the Year category.
In July 2022, I graduated from my masters degree in Sports Broadcast Media with first class honours.
After graduating, I worked across a wide variety of roles in live sports production. This has included work as an assistant producer, drone pilot, camera operator, editor, reporter, presenter, and commentator for clients such as Rugby Pass, Twickenham Stadium, The ECB, BBC Sport, and the Fly Lacrosse.
Since focusing more time and effort into my social channels and website, I have been fortunate enough to turn my passions of adventure, travel, and hiking into a full time career.
Because of this, the majority of my work now consists of creating content for myself or for outdoor and travel brands.
My philosophy when it comes to creating content, be that written, video or, imagery, is to amaze, inform, and inspire.
Amaze - People with the footage or images I produce
Inform - People with information about a route, place to visit, or piece of equipment I use
Inspire - People to go out and undertake these or and adventure themselves
I will always aim to do at least one of these, with the aim of hopefully doing all three.
Outside of being a freelance content creator, I am an Ordnance Survey OS Champion and a Deuter Pro Team Member.
I am also extremely passionate about fitness (cycling and trail running), local adventures, and the outdoors. I frequently look to challenge myself both physically and mentally by taking on at least one annual long distance hike and/or cycling adventure
2019 - I bikepacked 870 miles around the entire coastline of Wales over 15 days to raise money for the charity Restart Rugby.
2020 - Covid lockdowns stopped play
2021 - I bikepacked from the north coast to the south coast of Wales via an ancient Roman road known as Sarn Helen. Alongside acting as an opportunity to raise money for charity, I also I filmed the entire cycle and turned in into a documentary for my masters degree.
2022 - I completed the Welsh 3,000s and Welsh Three Peaks
2023 - I completed a full distance Ironman and the Welsh 3000s
2024 - I hiked the Welsh Three Peaks whilst cycling in-between (15 hours) them alongside completing Snowdon 6 Challenge
2025 - I hope to undertake LEJOG
These adventures and challenges were initially fuelled by my loss of identity, desire to push myself, a chance to raise money for charity, alongside wanting to have a good story to tell the grandkids
However in 2024 I unexpectedly lost my father to a heart attack.
Alongside being the reason I got into the outdoors and imploring me to chase my passions, he loved watching my challenges and adventures on YouTube.
The grief of losing him alongside his love of my adventures now serves as my ‘why’ and adds extra motivation for any challenge I take on.
Wrapping this up I will continue to chase my passions and try to earn a living through what I do. Hopefully you will follow along and even support me on my journey.
Diolch
